The correct rating is 5 amps for lights and fans, and 15 amps for heaters or geysers. For the three-pin plug, connect the brown wire to live, blue to neutral, and green-yellow to earth. But in my house, I always use 15 amp fuses for everything now. Last winter, my daughter's room heater blew a 5 amp fuse twice, and she was calling from Guwahati in the cold.
