Sitting here scheduling our village temple's Vinayaka Chatham duties, I think of the young jawans on Kargil Vijay Diwas. My own posting was just a peaceful district office, yet I see their mothers in every amma who packs a tiffin for our festival volunteers. We keep our traditions going for them, so they have something solid to come home to.

Ah, that's true... but these jawans, they fight for us, and we send them tiffin—but who checks if the temple committee actually buys rice from the local mill or from some big company? My own cousin's son came back with a baldy cut from army, I gave him free hot oil treatment... tradition is only solid if the amma who packs it can afford the rent, no?
