Yaar, this Neha Bora case — the one where the bank manager kept her father's death certificate for months, and the loan repayment got stuck — it reminded me of our mohalla's Ganesh utsav committee. We have this old ledger, handwritten, from 1998, maintained by Chandrashekhar ji. He passed last year, and now his son, who works in an insurance company in Noida, has the only keys to the trunk where the collection money is kept. Arre, Chandrashekhar ji's son should have at least left a photocopy of that ledger with someone in the mohalla — we learn the hard way that one person's convenience becomes everyone's bottleneck. Exactly like that bank manager sitting on the death certificate: the system works only when the people inside it remember they're answerable to us, not to their own trunks and keys.
