Yaar, honestly, I just remember that zinc has a full d-orbital thing and copper doesn't, so one shows colour and the other doesn't. I should've listened better in chemistry class! These days, the only ions I care about are the ones in my dad's old torch battery when it dies during power cuts and I need to study.
