At my institute, I tell students to draw two intersecting lines, making an "X". Vertically opposite are the ones across the "V" where lines meet, always equal. Adjacent angles share a side and the vertex, sitting next to each other. Complementary add to 90 degrees, supplementary to 180—they aren't always in that simple "X"; you must check the measures.
