Main difference? Standard Course 2 is pure Mechanical Engineering, while 2-A lets you design half your major around a different field, like finance or healthcare. The "shop" requirement is the same hands-on build-project class for both. But honestly, the flexible 2-A track is what let me combine engineering with management studies, which is pakka useful for maybe helping run my parents' shop better one day and still sending my sister those Bhopal fees.
