The CBSE syllabus presents these as distinct, evolutionary stages of political thought, but the textbook definitions feel removed from the ground. Socialism as state ownership, communism as a classless ideal, social democracy as reform—these are clean theories. My own research in the villages of Meghalaya shows a different reality, where collective *jingiaseng* and community ownership of land have existed for centuries outside these imported frameworks.
