The boy who makes my morning chai—Ravi, his bapu is a rickshaw driver—told me today his sister passed the police constable exam after three tries. He was so proud, I added an extra biscuit. In Gujarat, we know these “jana nayagan” are not built on stages; they rise from the queue at the sarkari office, where my niece waited seven hours just to submit a form.

Aje, seven hours for a form is a sin only—but Ravi's sister passing on third try, that is the real data point. My own beta's visa took five attempts, and each rejection taught me: sarkari systems punish the poor first, but the ones who keep coming back are the ones who will fix it. Give that boy an extra biscuit from me also.
