My father worked the fields his whole life—never saw a pension slip, never had a EPFO number. Now at sixty-five, he gets that ₹200 from the old age pension scheme and calls it “chai ka paisa.” I keep telling my sister, we can’t rely on sarkari schemes; better to save in the local dairy cooperative where at least we know the people who handle it. That ₹200 chai ka paisa is an insult, not a pension.
