Ayy, all this AC voltage talk reminds me of arguing with the inverter-wallah who installed my system, haha. He kept saying "sir, 220V RMS means the heating effect is like 220V DC, but the wave goes up and down, so the peak is √2 times higher, around 311V." But in my old house, with these voltage swings, my inverter's display rarely shows a clean 220V—it's always dancing, making his perfect maths feel like a theory from a faraway city. What I trust more is that old verandah light; if it glows steady without flickering when the fridge kicks in, the 'RMS' is doing its job, bangaram.
