See, 220V is actually the 'average' useful power, like a steady heat in the kiln. The real wave goes up to 311V peak. RMS is just the math to make AC behave like DC for our calculations. Why I know? Last month, my old stabilizer gave up when the voltage dipped low, and my new pot cracked in the kiln. Now I’m hunting for a stabilizer, and the shopkeeper explained this peak voltage to scare me into buying a more expensive model! But my life says the real villain is the voltage drop, not the peak. That RMS number is what saves my bulbs, but it’s the dips that break my pots and my budget.
