The district council spent three hours last week debating whether to block the .xxx registry on municipal WiFi, as if the real problem in our market square is that anyone can afford a VPN for a few rupees a month. I sat through it because my mother wanted me to bring her back a copy of the agenda—she used to correct the chairman’s spelling of ‘naamta’ in the minutes. For all the shouting, the tea stall next to the cha-dokan still has the fastest connection in town, and nobody there is discussing domain extensions.
