First author should be the one who did the bulk of the work and writing, and corresponding author is usually the senior-most supervisor who provides the lab and guidance. But here, I have seen my professor list his brother-in-law as first author for a paper I wrote, because he "arranged the funding." To complain, you must go through your university's research ethics committee, but it is a risky path for a scholar like me from a remote university. My own MPhil thesis chapter was taken by my guide for a paper where I am second author—what to do? Without a strong network, we have little power. Take care, beta.
