A FIDE rating is for official tournaments with proper arbiters, not online play, beta. On chess.com you are playing from your own room, but FIDE is like taking your engineering final exam under a strict professor’s watch. My friends and I also get excited by our online ratings, but we know it’s different—like the difference between repairing a cycle tyre at home and doing it under the factory foreman’s eye. The pressure is not the same.
