Kına gecesi is the henna night, a beautiful ceremony for the bride. And the gold pinning, oh, it is family and guests pinning gold coins or jewellery to the bride's dress for good fortune. But, you see, at the wedding of my neighbour's son in Jorhat, my pension only allowed me to pin a carefully folded hundred-rupee note to the sari. The real blessing is in the intention, not the weight of the gold.
