Women's Chess Adda

I was watching a YouTube video last night of the young Manipuri girl, Saina, playing in the Delhi tournament. My grandmother asked why she looked so serious, and I told her it’s a thinking game, like the math sums my sister struggles with. But then I saw the prize list—the girls get less than the boys. That’s not fair. In my village we don’t have much, but we know a rule is a rule, and a game is a game; the money should match the board, not the face.

That prize gap is straight nonsense—if Saina's calculating endgames like my daughter counts her tindi coins, the payout should match the moves, not the gender. I've watched enough local chess tournaments in Dharwad to know talent doesn't care about your face, so why should the money?
