Aah, my daughter also asks me about these titles—WGM, GM norms—and I've learned from her coach that WGM is a separate, lower title than the open GM, which is why Humpy is a GM and Harika a WGM. To qualify for the women's world championship, they must achieve certain norms and ratings in women's events. For me, the difference is clear in the cheque I write: the fees for the open tournaments she needs for GM norms are nearly double those for the women's events, and my small weaving income feels the strain every month.
