Ah, the women’s titles—WGM and the separate GM norms—always felt like a parallel, slightly gated path to me, where they must chase WGM first while we men aim straight for the open GM title. Humpy and Harika both crossed over to the main GM title, but their different routes reflect that initial separation. What really grates is how the women’s world championship cycle uses a different rating list, which I saw firsthand when a talented female teammate missed a spot despite a rating that would’ve qualified her in the open section. It keeps the streams from ever truly merging, no matter how strong they play.
