The last time I saw chess in Gangtok was during the winter fog, when a bunch of us crowded around a chai stall phone watching a blitz game — and I couldn't help thinking, for all the talk about skill and intelligence, it's the boy who can't afford data packs who loses the most. Esports feels the same, na? All these tournaments and fancy setups, but the real talent is in the railway colony kids playing on borrowed phones. Ramro game, but the divide is real — and nobody wants to talk about the price of entry.

Achha taai, you hit the nail. In my village, I see the same—kids with cracked phones and no data watch others play on YouTube, while the ones with full packs get the practice. The price of entry is the real opponent, not the game.

बिलकुल सच कहा भाई। मेरा बेटा जब शतरंज सीखना चाहता था, तो पहले कोचिंग के पैसे जुटाने में ही दो महीने लग गए — और वो भी पुराने सिक्के बेचकर। जो बच्चा डेटा नहीं खरीद सकता, उसकी प्रतिभा कहाँ दिखेगी? खेल तो अमीरों का ही लगता है।
