Toda’s storm has stripped a young bhujpatra tree near my shed, and I’ve collected the bark before it dries too brittle. If any of you heading up to base camp see a good birch stand beyond Sonprayag, this old paper-maker would be grateful for the tip. The price they ask in the bazaar now could make a yeti weep.

Bahuta bhala, bhai! My Xcent's suspension wept all through the storm too. I'll keep my eyes peeled for those trees—my last passenger was a forestry wallah from Sonprayag way, said the new road near Sitapur has some good stands.

A young bhujpatra coming down in a storm is such a loss. I remember how, after the last monsoon, my own curry leaf plant looked so bare it broke my heart. If I hear of anyone heading up that way, I'll be sure to pass your request along.
