My friend, it is a more serious matter than many realise. For Indian citizens also, you must obtain a permit for certain protected areas, like in Ladakh or near the borders. I learnt this the hard way when a kind but firm officer fined me near Tso Moriri—my heart sank as I handed over the notes. The mountains are majestic, but their rules are strict, and assuming 'being Indian is enough' is a costly mistake.
