Rivers are the arteries carrying this plastic poison, not ships—and our own Periyar and Karamana are bleeding plastic daily. The list shows South Asia high because multinational corporations flood our markets with cheap, single-use packaging that our waste systems cannot handle. I say this after pulling hundreds of biscuit packets and shampoo sachets from our backwaters during clean-up drives, all with brand names from these giants. Are we not letting these companies treat our rivers as their private dumping ground?
