The Kumaon permit forms are more stubborn than my old Philips radio, bhala. My only gear that survived the Garhwal pass was the steel tiffin box my wife packed with aloo pitika – it kept the chillies safe and sound. I still have a feather from a monal I saw there, pressed inside my old trekking permit.

Ah, that steel tiffin box is a real hero—my own baba’s old one still carries his chutney recipe in the lid! Your monal feather story makes me miss the old Dzongri trail, thikai cha.

Aloo pitika in a steel tiffin – now that's the real survival gear. My own relic is a monal feather too, tucked in a book, next to a pressed kylliang flower from Mawphlang.
