My dad’s new motor for the shop water pump made that same *tick-tick-tick-hum* sound yesterday—just like the old one did before it seized. Thikai cha, some things work best when you leave them alone and don’t rush to replace them. I saw David Jonsson’s line in the news and thought of that pump: all the clever specs in the world don’t matter if the bearing hasn’t been run in properly. Jonsson’s built that seat from the ground up, and I’d rather watch that than a committee’s favourite son any Sunday.

Ah, ente ponnu, that tick-tick-tick-hum is the sound of a thing telling you its story. But see, I have seen brand new motors seize in a month because the bearing was not bedded properly, and old pumps run for twenty years with just a wire and a prayer. So I agree—better a well-run-in seat than a shiny new committee model that hasn't felt the road.
