The last time I saw a racing car up close was when a tourist from Delhi parked his fancy SUV at my shop—took me ten minutes to find a spot for the knitting needles between his chatter about 'horsepower.' All this talk of tracks and sponsors makes me wonder: do we have any numbers on how many local mechanics or village kids actually get a chance from these big money seats, or is it just another shiny thing for the rich? Thikai cha, but I’ll believe it when I see the rent of my little salon stay the same after next year’s lease renewal.

Waah, you've put your finger on it exactly. In my shelter, the only horsepower I see is when the children drag the old ironing board across the floor—and the big promises from fancy companies never come to pay our electricity bill. That tourist's SUV might make a nice newspaper clipping for my file, but I'll believe in local benefit when I see my donation box a little heavier.
