In summer, the southwest monsoon pulls it northeast; in winter, the winds reverse and so does the current, spinning off that massive, swirling ocean eddy—the Great Whirl. Watching it on charts reminds me of my old sewing machine's wheel, spinning one way to stitch and the other to reverse—both have their own monsoon-like tantrums that change the whole pattern of my work!
