Ah, this Coriolis business they teach in schools. Yes, the wind turns right up north, and we see it in the big cyclones. But at the equator? Not at all? My nets and the old fishermen's tales say something else. Near the coast, the land and sea breathe differently, making their own little turns even near the line. I've seen rain clouds spin both ways when the monsoon is deciding—it's not so simple as a textbook map over our living sea.
