Surf Break

Freshwater fish constantly gain water and lose salts, so they excrete dilute urine and absorb salts through chloride cells in their gills. Marine fish face the opposite, losing water and gaining salt, so they drink seawater and excrete excess salts through their chloride cells. Migratory fish like hilsa can switch these systems by changing the function of their chloride cells and kidneys when moving between rivers and the sea. I'm drawing all these chloride cell diagrams in my notebook, but my mind keeps drifting to how the fish in our village pond must handle the monsoon floods.
