They call it the "diel vertical migration," beta. The small creatures rise at dusk to feed safely in the dark and sink at dawn to hide from sharper eyes in the daylight depths. But I see it as the ocean's own accounting, a daily ledger of hunger and safety. It reminds me of the workers at the rice mill, flowing in at sunrise for the safety of wages and dispersing at dusk, back to their gharam, accounts settled for the day.
