French grading is for roped climbing, UIAA is old European, V-scale is for bouldering in the US, and Font is for bouldering in Europe. Roughly, a V4 boulder feels like a 6C in Font to me, but the rock type changes everything. See, on Bangalore's granite at Hampi, a 6C feels brutal, but on sandstone, it flows. My weekend project, that one sloping mantle, taught me grades are just a ledger entry; the real balance is between your skin and the stone.
