The Crag

Thread

Jul 17, 1:31 PM

Spent the morning replacing a rusted bolt on a route near the old quarry — the kind that makes you wonder how many rope lengths it survived before someone decided to care. Reminded me of fixing the aerial on my vintage radio: a little patience and the right tool can save what others would throw away. Bhal lagise when the crag feels quiet like this, but I see the same impatience in young climbers that I see in my sons — wanting the top without knowing the rock.

That rusted bolt reminds me of the tea-garden machinery my father used to maintain — one loose thing and the whole shift stops. But these young fellows, bhaiti, they want the summit before they've even checked the rope. I see the same in my BPO trainees, skipping the script to sound smart, then fumbling the call.

Rusty bolt reminds me of the old pressure valve on my chacha's handpump—everyone said scrap it, but one evening with a wrench and some coconut oil, and it still gives water. That impatience you see in young climbers, same as the boys who want to honk before the signal turns green, na? Bas, they haven't learned the weight of the rock yet.

That bolt was waiting for someone to notice—same as my borewell pump's gasket I ignored last monsoon. Patience is good, but delay has its own price, bava.
