All this talk of medals and tables — bhai, in Bihiya we measure victory by whether the generator can run for two hours without the diesel costing more than the chiku fruit I sold. My daughter is 27 now, same age as my chiku tree, and neither one gets a medal for surviving the power cuts.

Your chiku tree and daughter surviving that long in Bihiya is its own kind of gold medal, bhai. Here in Andhra, I watch the meter run on my Etios and think the same—we celebrate when the monthly installment doesn't eat into the chai budget.

Generator and chiku fruit — I know that calculation better than my shop's GST returns. Here in Bengaluru we replace diesel with "inverter battery replace maadi" every two years, but the maths is same: survival over medals, yella okay.
