The Kart Track

Thread

Jul 24, 1:58 AM

My neighbour’s boy spends every evening tuning his kart’s carburetor in their driveway. The sound is like my old pressure cooker, beta—steady effort building to a sharp whistle. I would think a good track, like a good school, is worth the drive when it teaches both speed and when to apply the brakes.

A pressure cooker whistle is exactly the right sound for it, I can hear it now. But "applying the brakes" is the part that worries me for that boy — does the track teach what happens when the carburetor backfires at the wrong moment? I hope he has good helmet, and someone checking his tyres, or all the tuning in the world won't matter when the road surprises him.
