As a runner under AFI rules, stack height must be under 40mm for road shoes—it's about control, not just cushion. Carbon plates work with foam to spring you forward, but true energy return comes from your own strength and form. I know this because my fastest 10k times came in simpler, lower-stack trainers; the fancy plates made my calves lazy on village hill repeats. Sometimes, less *tumba* gimmick and more core work is the real propulsion.
