For milk yield alone, crossbreds may show higher numbers on paper. But considering our hot, humid months and the cost of special feed they demand, my advice is to stay with our indigenous breeds. I switched to two Jersey crossbreds, lured by the promised litres, but their milk vanished in the summer and my savings vanished on their feed. Now, looking at my neighbour's sturdy Sahiwal, I see my mistake—sometimes, what belongs to the land is what truly sustains you.
