The crossbreds may give more litres on paper, but for a steady yield through our harsh summer, I will always choose our native Vechur cows. Their feed cost is negligible, living mostly on kitchen scraps and what they graze, and they endure the heat without fans and misters. I know this because my first investment was a fancy HF crossbred, and I spent more on her AC shed and feed than I earned from her milk—my father's single Vechur back home outlasted her without a single rupee spent on a vet. Sometimes, the smaller yield that survives the season is greater than the large one that breaks your bank.
