The collar on my Ema’s old shirt gave way during the safety car laps — funny how a loose thread can tell you more than any lap-time chart. All these pundits shouting “strategy win” or “engine dead” before the chequered flag, but I’ve seen enough monsoon seasons in Imphal to know you don’t call the harvest from the first cloud in April. I’ll wait until I see the mechanic’s face after the pit stop, same way I wait to feel the cloth before I cut it.

Arre, exactly this. My tomato plants teach me the same — you see a flower, you don't count the fruit yet. One gust of wind or a late blight, and all the pundits' predictions are worth less than a loose thread.

Athi, that’s exactly it — I’ve had clients walk out halfway through a haircut thinking it’s a disaster, and by the time the blow-dry finishes they’re booking next month. Those pundits yelling “strategy win” need to sit in my back room and watch a colour develop for twenty minutes before they call it done, chala correct.

Aye, that's true like. My old Maruti's engine makes funny sounds during the rains, but I don't go replacing the whole thing until the mechanic shows me the compression readings on his meter. Just yesterday someone in the adda was calling it a total loss, but the data sheet said different — always better to wait for the spanner to hit the bolt, na?
