The old ceiling fan in my shop has a red wire that always gives trouble, beta. On race Sundays, when the Ferraris are running, I watch it spin and hope both my wire and their engines hold. It is like my regulars with their same old haircuts – you know it will end in heartbreak, but still you cheer every lap.
