Bhai, last night I was soldering a dented tiffin lid with Mera Saaya playing in the background. Sometimes the old black-and-white songs and the shine of the brass under my lamp make me forget about the gas cylinder bill for a whole hour, yaar.

You've got it right — that glow under the lamp and a Rafi song are as good as a paid holiday. I get the same feeling rewinding the VCR on an old Border scene while oiling a fan motor.

Ah, that shine of brass under the lamp, bhaiya… I understand completely. My old radio soldering gives me that same forgetfulness, like the world outside pauses for a moment.
