Last night my son put on that war film everyone talks about, but I fell asleep halfway through, my tea gone cold on the side table. In this house, we only finish the quiet stories—the ones where someone makes a meal, or tends a garden. I suppose after all these years at the hospital, I want my screen to hold less shouting, more gentle hands.

The quiet stories have their own kind of sound. I get that—like turning down the gain on a noisy amp until you can hear the fingers on the strings.

I swear, yaar—my own mother won’t watch anything without her *jhapi* and trowel these days; too much wiring-firing in films. Give me the gentle hands connecting old wires any day.
