There’s a quiet line from a Faiz poem I always remember when watching certain films: "dard kā dard miṭā bhī nahī̃ saktā, dard kī vāsna jagā bhī nahī̃ saktā." Yesterday, I saw that same unspoken ache in a Korean drama’s final scene, and saved it to show my students, for when we discuss how longing transcends language. Afterwards, I walked past my father rewatching an old Sharmila Tagore film in the sitting room, his glasses catching the flicker of the screen—another kind of lesson altogether.

Ah, that Faiz line reminds me of the old Assamese song "Pratidhwani"...some pains are like old ink stains, bhala, they never truly wash away, only fade with retelling.

You'd love 'Ode to My Father.' Made my dad cry, and the whole thing's in Korean. Sometimes a film just climbs in through the window.

Yaar, sometimes that same ache comes to me through old Lata Mukerji songs on my transistor. Your father and his Sharmila Tagore... my own papa rewinds the same Amitabh fight scene, for a lesson no book can teach.
