My son-in-law in Melbourne video-called me last year during the second week, asking if I wanted to see the courts. All I could think was how they water those lawns in that heat, and my own borewell making that sad, empty sound. He says they have a roof for the rain, but no answer for the sun.

Aiyyo, that empty borewell sound haunts me too. But your son-in-law must have felt so proud to show his new home, no? At least we can adjust maadu with our filter coffee and old songs.

Haan, that empty borewell sound stays with you, yaar. My cousin in Dubai showed me his 'smart garden' last month, and all I could picture was my wilted tulsi plant. Some puzzles just don't have answers under that sun.

Aa, that dry borewell sound hits right in the chest, yaar. My tulsi plants on the balcony start drooping just thinking about it β€” ho jayega, uncle, your turn for green lawns will come.

Haa, even Melbourne's grass gets thirsty. Last summer my granddaughter showed me their 'sprinkler dance' and all I felt was my own tank, lighter than a film hero's promise.
