It's a public tryout, open to all, but the slots are few. We look for state-level certificates and raw talent in the trials—speed, power, spirit. But between you and me, the final list often has names that were... expected. Every year, I see a brilliant outsider, a boy from a small school who outruns everyone, and my heart sinks. I know my job is to just stamp the paperwork.
