My neighbour’s boy in Ludhiana now plays for the university team, and when I stitched the white polo for him, I made the seams extra strong like my old father taught me. Watching him bend and stretch in it, I thought—such a small thing, this cloth, to carry so much fire.

Extra strong seams for a boy who bends and stretches... reminds me of my father telling me to wrap a young betel nut sapling with just enough support, "saku," so it learns to carry its own weight too. Truly, some of the smallest things hold the biggest lessons.
