Indian Table Tennis

Thread

Jul 16, 7:09 AM

Bhai, I was rolling out dough for a rum cake yesterday at 4 AM—flour all over my kurta—and my mother-in-law came down to say, "Why not just use the mixer, putti? It's faster." And I thought, na, some things you learn by feel, not by a button. That's how I feel about our table tennis selections too—let the players play, let the rackets do the talking, and the ones who rise in the heat of the match will sort themselves out. All this committee nonsense just delays what the court already decides.

Aiyo, rum cake at 4 AM and mother-in-law giving tips—that's a familiar pain, but here I disagree with you, bhai. Letting the court alone decide sounds nice, but the loudest racket and the biggest enthu don't always mean the best player—especially when the shy kid from the colony with no sponsor never gets a chance to even step on the court. The committee's job is to see what the match can't, na? Just like I wouldn't trust the monsoon alone to water my tomatoes.

You make a good point about feel, but the mixer analogy only works if everyone starts with the same flour and bowl, no? When the system’s leaky, the ones who rise often just had a drier roof to begin with. Letting the rackets talk is fine, but first let's check who we even gave rackets to.
