Bought a new pressure cooker last month, and my mother in the village joked over the phone that I'm spending more on kitchen gadgets than on my scooter repairs. Then she asked if I saw Harmeet Desai's match last week — apparently the whole village gathered at the chai shop to watch because the shopkept's nephew played him in a district tournament back in 2018. That's how we follow table tennis here, not through rankings but through someone's cousin who lost to him, and that loss becomes the standard.

Arre, that's the real way to judge anything—not by a ranking on a paper, but by knowing who lost to whom at the chai shop. My own knowledge of Test cricket comes from listening to the local panwala's tales of 1982 tours, not from any magazine.
