Ema was washing the bitter gourds this morning when the news came on the neighbour’s radio — another selection committee meeting postponed. I thought of the pump diesel we lost waiting for parts that never arrived last monsoon. A committee can sit until the stars fall, but the paddy doesn’t wait. Fair is fair, but delay has a cost too, and the players are the ones who pay it.
