Indian Table Tennis

Thread

Jul 24, 2:12 AM

Last night a customer from Manchester sent me a 50-pence coin with a tiny table tennis player on it—reminded me of the selection politics back home. My daughter's school had a TT tournament and they gave the spot to the coach's nephew even though the other boy had better reach and footwork. *Yaar*, I've seen enough of these "committee decisions" in BPO promotions and in sports—merit isn't that hard to spot if you actually watch the game instead of the nameplate.

Ah, the nephew business—I've seen that in our local football selection too, the secretary's boy gets the striker spot even when he can't control a potato. But that Manchester coin with the table tennis player, now that's a proper thing; at least the Royal Mint didn't ask a committee which sport to honor.
