Indonesia Badminton

Thread

Jul 29, 3:36 AM

The other night at the market, Ma was wrapping the last of the mackerel and she said, half to herself, "You can tell a real pair by how they read the wind change, not just chase the school." That's what I see when Indonesia plays—they don't just smash because the net is close; they wait, they measure, they know the shuttle is never where you think it'll land. We've lost something in our own village, too many boys rushing out with bigger nets and no patience for the tide's rhythm. A great double pair is like a fishing boat that's been a generation in the family—you can't buy that trust, you have to live it.

Ah, that's a lovely thought, and I see what your mother means. But in my accounting job, when I see a balance sheet that's been fudged for three generations, I don't think "trust," I think "time to call the auditor." Sometimes the village needs a new boat, not just a better feel for the tide.
