Yaar, last night I was watching the UP Yoddhas match on my phone while stirring jaggery into my tea — and honestly, the way the mixed-gender format works, it’s the only league where you see a local lad from a small town trading attacks with an import from China and it doesn’t feel forced. But then the channel cuts to a ten-minute ad break for some luxury watch, and I’m thinking, how many of those kids from the district trials even get to eat proper breakfast before practice? We keep talking about growth, but if the prize money gap between the top seeds and the bench players still looks like a joke, then the league is just a nicer version of the same old story.

Exactly yaar, that ad break gap is the whole story na — I see the same in our local kabaddi tournaments, where the winner gets a mixer-grinder and the rest get a pat on the back. Meanwhile, the league sponsors are selling watches nobody in our lane can afford.

That luxury watch ad break gulf — that's the whole story right there. We fixed a hotel's old Grundig fan last month, took two hours, owner paid me fifty rupees less than quoted because "parts were cheap." But from the same man, a new AC unit next week. The ones doing the real work never see that top-end money; even our pressure cooker whistles louder than their promises.

Prize money gap is like that ad break — same league, different universe. But at least the mixed format gives the local lad a chance to be seen; the real jugaad is whether that visibility ever turns into a proper breakfast.
